How to maintain a mountain bike

1. Clean the frame

To clean the frame, you can use a rag dipped in water to drench the parts on the parts, so that the mud sticking under the frame will easily become soft after encountering water. At this time, you can easily remove the mud by wiping with a rag. The author personally does not approve of using a high-pressure water gun to wash the sludge on the bicycle, because such cleaning, the water will easily enter the center axle or the hub, which will affect the life of the parts.

2. Wheels, fronts and seatposts

When washing the wheel set, you can choose to use a shoe brush dipped in detergent to brush the sand on the tire. When washing the car rim, it is best to replace it with a rag with detergent, and carefully wipe the brake pad on the car rim. A simple scrubbing of the spokes will do. When washing the hub, also do not use a high-pressure water gun to remove the detergent. Just wipe with a clean rag after simply drenching it in water. When washing the seat tube and seat bag, be careful not to let the muddy water flow into the seat tube along the seam of the seat tube clip. Under the seat bag, it is often the place where the mud and water fly up the most, and the mud should be carefully wiped off with a rag.

3. Dial, front dial, back dial

After washing the above accessories, the next step is to wash the dial. The dial is more complicated, and there is more butter in the parts to lubricate. When cleaning the fingers, it is best to gently wipe it with a rag to clean it. When washing the front and rear dials, you can directly align the water pipe with the gap between the front and rear dials to rinse with water, so that the muddy water and sand stuck in the front and rear dials can be washed away. After rinsing off, you can also use detergent to wash off the oil stains on the front and rear dials.

4. Front fork, pedal, brake

Cleaning the fork and pedals is easy, just wash the muddy water off the pedals. It is best not to rinse the front fork with water. When scrubbing the inner tube of the fork, wring out the water on the rag before wiping the inner tube of the fork. Some impurities will remain on the inner tube of the front fork after a period of use, which can be gently wiped off with a cotton swab. It is best to develop the habit of keeping the front fork clean, which is also the most basic maintenance of the front fork. When washing the brakes, you can directly flush the sediment left in the brakes with a water pipe to prepare for the next maintenance. For wheel discs, front and rear derailleurs, guide wheels, etc., brushes can be used to remove dust and small dirt.

5. Crankset, flywheel and chain

In the whole cleaning process, these three accessories may be the most dirty parts. Because the lubricating oil is left on the accessories, the dust is most likely to adhere. We can pour the same detergent on the rag first, and then we can wash the tooth plate after dipping it in water. When cleaning the tooth plate, try to use a rag to clean each tooth. After washing, rinse it with water, you You will be pleasantly surprised to find that under the scrubbing with a dishwashing cloth, the tooth plate has been as bright as new.

The next thing to wash is the flywheel. To wash the flywheel, remove the rear wheel for cleaning. Begin by releasing the rear brake so the brake is not pinching the wheel. First loosen the screws on both sides of the rear wheel quick release, then tap the rear wheel lightly at this time, and the wheel will come out. Put the wheel on the ground, carefully wipe the flywheel with a rag, put the wheel back on the car, pay attention to the position of the rear dial, and slowly pull the rear dial to put the wheel in. This process is very simple, and you can understand it after one or two disassembly and assembly.

The last thing to clean is the chain. After a long ride, a lot of sand is easy to stick to the chain. There are many ways to wash the chain, the author will introduce two methods here: the first is to use kerosene to wash the chain, wrap the rag with kerosene around the chain and drag it back and forth. The downside is that it will leave you with an odor, grease and oil stains. The second method is to use detergent. It should be noted that when washing the chain, it is best to use hot water of about 45 degrees, which is easier to play its cleaning effect. In addition to wiping the chain back and forth with a rag sticking with detergent, it is best to use a thicker brush to slowly brush each chain once, and soon the black chain will show its original color.
